Indonesia has rescued more than 100 Rohingya minority Muslims stranded off the country's western coast for nearly a week. Their boat arrived from Bangladesh but locals did not allow it to land. Local authorities say they launched an operation that rescued around 140 Rohingya, most of them women and children. Three people have died and 10 have been taken to the hospital. Police say the boat left Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh on October 9th and arrived in the province of Aceh last week. But locals, angered by the surge of recent Rohingya arrivals, refused to let them come ashore. The United Nations refugee agency says over 2,000 Rohingya have reached Indonesia since last November. They are among the hundreds of thousands of Rohingya who have fled Myanmar since 2017 to escape a military crackdown. Most of them are living in Bangladesh. Some have taken fragile boats to reach other countries and escape poor conditions.
