A day of devastation near the Turkish-Syrian border has gotten even worse. Another major earthquake struck southern Turkey on Monday, hours after a massive one in the morning. Officials report more than 1,200 have been killed. Thousands more injured. And the destruction continues.
                
Turkey&#039;s disaster management agency upgraded the size of the first quake that hit shortly after 4 a.m. It now says magnitude 7.7 instead of 7.4.
                
The agency says dozens of tremors followed, including a magnitude 7.6 jolt in the same region.
                
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says 912 people are dead and more than 5,000 have been injured. About 3,000 buildings have collapsed. Erdogan says the number of casualties could rise further as debris is removed.
                
Officials earlier said it will take some time for emergency crews to reach the impacted provinces because of bad weather.
                
And in Syria, state-run media say more than 300 people have been killed and hundreds more injured. But those numbers could increase, with reports of dozens of deaths in the rebel-held regions in Syria&#039;s northwest. Emergency workers are searching for people trapped under the rubble.
                
Erdogan says more than 40 countries and agencies are offering support. Japan is sending an emergency response team to help with search and rescue efforts.
