Netanyahu visits Gaza, vows to increase pressure on Hamas NHK

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday visited northern Gaza, where he reiterated his intention to increase military pressure on the Islamic group Hamas.

He said, "Hamas will suffer more and more blows."

Netanyahu suggested his government will pressure the group to make concessions. The two sides remain far apart over conditions for a permanent ceasefire.

Israel reportedly made a new proposal demanding that Hamas be disarmed, while agreeing to a 45-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of 10 hostages.

Hamas is expected to respond to the proposal shortly.

Israeli forces resumed attacks on Gaza in mid-March after ceasefire talks stalled.

Palestinian media reported that 10 people were killed in an aerial bombing in Gaza City in the north on Wednesday.

Local health authorities say the death toll since mid-March has reached 1,630.
