Japan's budget bill for fiscal 2025 that begins in April is expected to be enacted after amendment. The leaders of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, its coalition partner Komeito and opposition Japan Innovation Party held a meeting on Tuesday evening. Prime Minister and LDP President Ishiba Shigeru, Komeito's Chief Representative Saito Tetsuo, Co-Representative of Japan Innovation Party Yoshimura Hirofumi officially reached an agreement on specific measures to make education free and reduce social security premiums. They then signed documents. On free education, the three parties agreed to remove the income cap in April next year to receive additional assistance for private high school tuition. The assistance will be raised to 457,000 yen, or about 3,000 dollars. That is equivalent to the national average tuition fees for private high schools. As for reduction of social security burden, the parties will establish a panel and implement possible measures from fiscal 2026. The agreement stipulates that the parties will revise the budget and tax-related bills, and enact them as early as possible during the current fiscal year.
