Police to serve ex-lawmaker GaaSyy fresh arrest warrant NHK

Police in Tokyo plan to serve a fresh arrest warrant to YouTuber and former Japanese lawmaker GaaSyy on Saturday for alleged intimidation of witnesses.

GaaSyy, whose real name is Higashitani Yoshikazu, was arrested last month on suspicion of repeatedly threatening an actor, a businessperson and a designer in videos between February and August last year. Tokyo prosecutors indicted him on Friday.

He reportedly told investigators that he did not think what he said in the videos was unlawful.

Authorities launched an investigation after those three people filed criminal complaints.

Investigative sources say GaaSyy made comments on social media to two of them in February, saying he will not forgive them for filing complaints.

Police plan to investigate whether GaaSyy, who was a Diet member at the time, used intimidation to obstruct judicial proceedings.

GaaSyy was expelled from Japan's Diet in March after staying overseas and failing to attend Diet sessions.
