Annual military parade highlights 'made in India' weaponry NHK

India has marked the 74th anniversary of its constitution with a large-scale military parade highlighting "made in India" weaponry in New Delhi.

The annual parade held on Thursday included a performance by the Prachand, the country's first domestically produced attack helicopter, which began operating last year.

The event also displayed India's state-of-the-art tanks and missiles deployed in actual combat, as well as a cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia.

India has been building up its military arsenal amid border tensions with neighboring China and Pakistan. It has relied on Russia for weapons procurement for decades.

But as Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues, the Modi administration hopes to reduce its dependence on foreign weapons and further promote domestic production.
