Tokyo police say man repeatedly stabbed woman to death using two knives NHK

Police in Tokyo say a 51-year-old man repeatedly stabbed a woman in her 20s with two knives within the premises of a high-rise condominium building in the capital's Shinjuku district.

Hirasawa Toshino aged 25, a resident of the condominium, was stabbed to death shortly after 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Wakui Manabu from Kawasaki City near Tokyo. He was sent to prosecutors on suspicion of murder on Thursday.

Police investigation has found that Hirasawa was attacked by Wakui when she was going back to her home in the tower building after leaving a convenience store on the first floor.

The suspect had reportedly waited for hours to ambush her. Wakui told police that he wanted to cause extensive damage to her body.

Investigators believe that the suspect had two paring knives that he brought from his home and used them to repeatedly stab Hirasawa.

The victim used to run a so-called "girls bar" where young women serve customers around Tokyo's Ueno district. Wakui was one of the customers there.

The suspect told investigators that he wanted her to repay more than 10 million yen, or over 64,000 dollars, that he provided to her to help her operate the establishment.

Investigators say the victim had dozens of stab marks and wounds mainly on the upper part of her body.
