Weather forecasts in India predict scorching heat for the next few months, and the country's farmers fear the impact on their crops. Some experts have said India might extend its ban on wheat exports which it imposed after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. India's weather authorities said severe heatwaves and abnormally high temperatures could affect wide parts of the country from March to May. Fears are mounting among farmers that their production could take another hit. They have already been reeling from a global shortage of fertilizer. Experts said severe conditions could prompt the government to consider extending its ban on wheat exports, to replenish stocks and bring down domestic prices. India is the world's second-largest producer of wheat, much of which is consumed domestically. The government banned exports last May to ensure a stable supply, as international prices soared following Russia's invasion.
