Japan Coast Guard found one body in sunken cargo ship NHK

The Japan Coast Guard has found one body in a cargo ship that sank in the Seto Inland Sea last week. Coast Guard officials say the person is likely one of the two missing crewmembers of the sunken Japanese ship Seiryu.

The officials say rescue personnel located the body on Monday morning in the wheelhouse of the ship, which is lying on the seabed about 57 meters down.

The 716-ton Seiryu sank after colliding with another Japanese cargo vessel off the western prefecture of Ehime last Thursday.

Three of the Seiryu's five crewmembers were rescued, but the other two remained missing. The two are the 63-year-old captain and the 24-year-old first officer.

The Coast Guard is working to identify the body and will continue its search.
