N.Korea: Launch of 'military reconnaissance satellite' fails NHK

North Korea says its launch of a "military reconnaissance satellite" using a new type of rocket failed due to an "error" during the flight.

Pyongyang made the announcement through the state-run Korean Central News Agency on Thursday.

The KCNA says the country conducted the second launch of a Malligyong-1 satellite at dawn on Thursday. It says the new carrier rocket Chollima-1 lifted off from the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground in Tongchang-ri in the country's northwest.

But it says the launch failed due to a problem during its third stage.

The KCNA says Pyongyang will conduct a third launch in October after studying the cause of the failure and taking corrective steps.
