N.Korea's Kim Jong Un visits military's training school NHK

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a military training school for core commanding officers one day before the nation marks 12 years since Kim assumed the top post of the ruling Workers' Party, which is on Thursday.

Following the death of his father Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un was named the party's first secretary at its conference in April 2012. It was a new title to let him lead the nation and its military.

The North's state-run Korean Central Television reported on Thursday that Kim visited the Kim Jong Il University of Military and Politics the day before.

The TV footage showed Kim inspecting a large replica of a city. A map behind the replica carries Korean letters indicating main streets in what it called the puppet South Korean region.

The news reported, "Kim said that now is the time to be more thoroughly prepared for a war than ever before and that the DPRK should be more firmly and perfectly prepared for a war, which should be won without fail."

Pyongyang watchers regard Kim's remarks as apparently aimed at solidifying the country's internal unity.

As for Wednesday's general elections in South Korea, North Korean media have yet to report the results.
