The Philippine Space Agency says debris found off islands of the country appears to be from a Chinese rocket launched last month.
                
The agency says the debris was found on Wednesday off the coasts of the western islands of Mindoro and Busuanga facing the South China Sea.
                
Photos released by the local government show that the several metal objects bear what appear to be Chinese national flags.
                
The agency says the objects are very likely from a Long March 5B rocket launched by China on October 31 in a project to build a space station.
                
China said last Friday that most of the rocket&#039;s components had burned up during reentry into the atmosphere.
                
Debris from another Chinese rocket was found off the Philippines after its launch in late July.
                
Philippine officials said the debris, weighing about 100 kilograms, was found in the country&#039;s exclusive economic zone where many fishing boats operate.
                
The agency says the Philippines will speed up efforts to ratify a UN treaty that would enable countries to demand compensation from others for damage caused by debris from their rockets.
