Sources say Japanese supermarket operator Ito-Yokado is planning to cut around 1,000 jobs, or 17 percent of its regular employees, by February 2026. The unit of retail giant Seven & i Holdings plans to reduce staff numbers through normal retirement and transfers to other group firms, without seeking early retirement. Seven & i is in the process of selling part of its supermarket operations to focus on its mainstay convenience store business. Ito-Yokado has posted net losses for four consecutive years. The company apparently aims to improve business efficiency by the job cuts.
