Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has indicated that his country has attacked Russian troops with long-range Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, missiles supplied by the United States.

Zelenskyy said on social media on Tuesday that "Today I am especially grateful to the United States. Our agreements with President Biden are being implemented. And they are implemented very accurately -- ATACMS missiles proved themselves."

Ukrainian military Commander-in-Chief General Valerii Zaluzhnyi posted a video purportedly showing missiles being fired, with the word ATACMS.

The Wall Street Journal quoted sources as saying the Ukrainian military used the surface-to-surface missiles to attack Russian troops for the first time.

The US newspaper reports that Washington secretly supplied a small number of the missiles, whose range is about 160 kilometers, in recent days.

Ukraine had repeatedly asked the US to supply the missiles that can be fired from the HIMARS systems that have already been provided.

They are also capable of attacking targets behind the enemy frontlines.

A senior member of a pro-Russian group in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia said on social media that the Ukrainian military used ATACMS in the port city of Berdyansk.
