Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned Russia's major attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on Christmas Day.
Zelenskyy said in a social media post on Wednesday: "Putin deliberately chose Christmas for an attack. What could be more inhumane?"
The mayor of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine said thermal power plants, boiler houses and other facilities were targeted. He added that four people were injured and a large part of the city was without heating.
Russia's defense ministry said its forces carried out a massive strike on critical power infrastructure facilities that support Ukraine's defense industry.
Authorities in the southern Russian republic of North Ossetia said on Wednesday that falling debris from a downed Ukrainian drone caused a fire at a shopping center in the city of Vladikavkaz. Russian media reported that one person died and two others were injured.
Ukrainian forces also struck the Kursk region in western Russia. The acting governor said the attack left four people dead and five injured.
