Cambodia names major road for Xi Jinping NHK

Cambodia announced on Tuesday that it has renamed a major road in the capital as Xi Jinping Boulevard.

During the naming ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet was joined by Wang Wentian, China's Ambassador to Cambodia. According to China's state-run Xinhua news agency, the prime minister described the naming as a gesture of gratitude to the Chinese President for his contribution to Cambodia's development.

The capital's ring road, which spans just about 50 kilometers, connects Phnom Penh to regional cities. Its construction was carried out by a Chinese company.
Cambodia's state media reports that the boulevard speaks to the history of the close relations between the two countries, which has grown to an unbreakable level.
This is the second road in Phnom Penh to be named for a Chinese leader, after the "Mao Zedong Boulevard."
