This year marks the 70th anniversary of the start of Japan's official development assistance to countries, including Thailand. Officials from both nations took part in a seminar on Tuesday in Bangkok to assess achievements and discuss future cooperation. The event was held by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, or JICA. Japan has supported Thailand's infrastructure development such as railways, airports and others. Through the initiative, about 32,000 Thais have undergone training in Japan in agriculture, infrastructure construction and other fields. Otaka Masato, the Japanese ambassador to Thailand, said: "The world around us is changing, and our cooperation must evolve with it. Moving forward, Japan and Thailand will need to strategically leverage our resources to ensure our continued development." Some experts say Japan can cooperate with Global South countries on climate change. JICA's local representative says as Japan and Thailand face similar issues such as an aging society and climate change, cooperation is key to tackling these challenges.
