The Israeli military said Sunday that eight more Israeli soldiers have died in combat in the Gaza Strip.
                
Qatar-based satellite TV network Al Jazeera quoted authorities in Gaza as saying on Sunday that two people were killed and many others were injured as Israel attacked homes in the southern Khan Younis area.
                
The houses in the area were built with support from Japan. Children fly kites every year in March to express hope for reconstruction of areas in northeastern Japan that were hit by the 2011 disaster.
                
A Palestinian news agency says Israeli air raid and shelling on homes in Jabalia in northern Gaza and in Shejaiya in the eastern part of the enclave killed many civilians, including children, and fierce attacks are continuing in northern Gaza.
                
Israeli forces say they have almost conquered northern Gaza and are stepping up offensive operations in southern Gaza, where they believe Hamas leaders are hiding.
                
However, Hamas is continuing to launch rockets into Israel, and is believed to be using guerilla tactics to offer resistance in urban areas.
