Thailand's parliament will hold a second prime ministerial vote next week.

On Wednesday the nomination of Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of the main opposition party, was blocked.
Now, the second-largest Pheu Thai party is gearing up for fielding its candidate.

Parliament passed a motion to indicate Pita was not eligible to run for election. It was submitted by conservative lawmakers, who said a second nomination would violate regulations.

Pita has been calling for progressive reforms, including the amendment of the lese majeste law and elimination of military influence in politics.
Conservative lawmakers, including the senate selected under the military government, have responded sharply to such challenges.

Pita himself intended to step aside and allow Pheu Thai to nominate its candidate if he failed to win a majority or expand his support base.

Pheu Thai is affiliated with ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. A party official has stated publicly it will nominate real-estate tycoon, Srettha Thavisin, as its candidate.

But Pheu Thai needs to gain support from conservatives.
So now the focus is on whether Pheu Thai will keep pushing to form a coalition with Move Forward and other parties or join hands with conservative parties and exclude Move Forward.
The next vote is scheduled to take place on July 27th.
