Japan expressway operator: Disrupted electronic toll collection system fixed NHK

A Japanese expressway operator says the electronic toll collection system has temporarily been fixed about 38 hours after it went down at some toll gates in Tokyo and seven other prefectures.



Central Nippon Expressway Company announced on Monday afternoon that drivers can now use the ETC gates as usual.



A technical problem shut down the toll collection system from early Sunday morning at nearly 110 gates.



The company has cited a system upgrade as the likely cause of the failure.



The operator says it will continue checking if the system is working properly, and urges drivers to ensure safety when passing the toll gates.
