An international conference has started in France to discuss the safe use of artificial intelligence. The Artificial Intelligence Action Summit kicked off in Paris on Monday. More than 1,000 government representatives, businesspeople and others are participating in the two-day meeting. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US Vice President JD Vance and US-based OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are expected to join it. A key issue at the meeting is safe ways to use AI in medical care and other areas that are highly public in nature. The meeting comes as concerns are rising over transparency in the collection and processing of information by generative AI. Fierce competition in AI systems development is continuing mainly between the United States and China. They are leaders in the field because of their economic power. Chinese startup DeepSeek recently launched generative AI services, saying the firm developed the model at a low cost. The French presidential office said that during the meeting it aims to set up a fund to give more countries access to AI development. President Emmanuel Macron said in a local TV interview on Sunday that the country's AI sector will receive investments worth some 109 billion euros, or about 113 billion dollars.
