Zelenskyy meets with world leaders in G7 Hiroshima summit NHK

On the final day of the G7 Hiroshima summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has taken part in sessions dealing with the war in his country and international peace.

While the Ukrainian leader joined the session focusing on the Russian invasion, Moscow claimed on Sunday it has taken full control of the eastern city of Bakhmut. But Ukraine denied that.

Zelenskyy has been urging G7 members to provide more military aid as his country prepares for a counteroffensive against Russia. The US has announced it will no longer oppose a decision by its European allies to provide F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

In another session, Zelenskyy met with both G7 and non-G7 leaders to discuss how to achieve international security and prosperity.

The Ukrainian President is scheduled to visit Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park. A museum there details the devastation caused by the 1945 atomic bombing. He is also expected to visit the cenotaph to commemorate the victims.

Zelenskyy is set to hold a one-on-one meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in the evening. After that, he is scheduled to hold a press conference to outline his thoughts following the summit.
