B: No, what happened? I love Miyajima!

A: Apparently, China told their citizens not to travel to Japan. It’s all about the Taiwan situation, you know?

B: Oh yeah, I remember reading something about that. So, is Miyajima empty now?

A: Not really! This reporter, Natsuno, went there recently. It was a Sunday, a three-day weekend, but really cold.

B: Cold? Maybe that's why it wasn't super crowded.

A: Exactly! She didn’t see many people at first, mostly Europeans and North Americans. No Chinese tourists!

B: Wow, really? That’s a big change, isn't it?

A: Yeah, the cafe owners said they hardly see any Chinese people anymore. But other tourists are making up for it. They said too many Chinese tour groups would be too much anyway!

B: Haha, that’s a funny problem to have! Did she at least enjoy herself?

A: Totally! She followed a deer around – seriously! - and it led her to a cafe. She had cheesecake for breakfast!

B: A deer guide! That's so Japan! Did she see the big torii gate?

A: Of course! She got to walk right up to it at low tide. She got some amazing pictures.

B: Sounds like a lovely trip, despite the cold and the lack of Chinese tourists.

A: It really does! It seems like the tourist numbers aren't down overall, just different.

B: Interesting! I’ll have to check it out sometime.
