Japan's men's basketball team has qualified for next year's Paris Olympics after beating Cabo Verde in FIBA World Cup action. The Japanese beat the West African squad 80-71 in Okinawa on Saturday. That put the team at the top of the Asian countries participating in this year's World Cup. Japan participated in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 as host country, but this is the first time in 48 years that the men's team has won a ticket to the Olympics as a result of a qualifier.
