The United Nations said on Wednesday that more than 500,000 people are reported to have been newly displaced or uprooted in Gaza since Israel resumed a large-scale military offensive on March 18. Palestinian media reported that 23 people who were living in tents were killed in attacks by the Israeli military in various parts of Gaza from Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Footage taken by an NHK camera crew on Wednesday night showed a succession of ambulances ferrying injured people to a hospital in Khan Younis. The Israeli military said it has taken control of about 30 percent of Gaza's territory since the offensive began. It is forcing residents to evacuate. The UN also said there are no more tents for the newly displaced people due to the Israeli ban on humanitarian aid supplies entering the enclave. It said the number of children receiving food has dropped by more than two-thirds. Israel and Hamas are negotiating through a mediator on a renewed ceasefire. Hamas is reportedly objecting to Israel's demands, including that it be disarmed.
