Iran holds funeral for slain Hamas leader Haniyeh NHK

Iran has held a funeral service for Hamas' top political leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in an apparent assassination in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Islamic group and its supporter Iran accuse Israel of carrying out the attack that killed Haniyeh.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian prayed in front of Haniyeh's coffin at Tehran University.

Photos and portraits of Haniyeh were on display around the venue.

Mourners wearing black marched in the Iranian capital. They shouted "Death to Israel" and other anti-Israel slogans.

The participants called for retaliation against Israel.

One mourner said Iran should teach Israel how arrogant and wrong its action was.

Another said Iran needs to do the same thing Israel did, to prevent the country from doing it again.
