Reuters news agency says top officials from the US and China began a second day of trade talks in Switzerland on Sunday. The meeting is drawing attention to see whether the two sides can make progress on easing the tariff confrontation. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer are participating in the talks. China's economic policy chief, Vice Premier He Lifeng, is also attending. US President Donald Trump touted the first day of the meeting in a social media post on Saturday night. He said: "Many things discussed, much agreed to. A total reset negotiated in a friendly, but constructive, manner." He added: "We want to see, for the good of both China and the U.S., an opening up of China to American business. GREAT PROGRESS MADE!!!" Trade tensions have been escalating between the two countries, with both of them slapping tariffs of more than 100 percent on each other's goods. Beijing firmly opposes Washington's tariff measures and has indicated that it would not easily compromise. Trump has hinted that the additional duties on China could be reduced depending on the progress of the negotiations.
