Major US airlines see post-pandemic profits NHK

Travel demand is recovering in the United States. The country's three major airlines went into the black in the October-to-December period.

United Airlines Holdings posted a net profit of 843 million dollars. Delta Air Lines' was 828 million dollars, and American Airlines Group 803 million dollars.

All were in the red in the same quarter in the previous year.

Revenue at United rose 51.3 percent from the same quarter of the previous year. Delta was up 41.8 percent, and American 39.9 percent.

A recovery in demand for both domestic and international routes pushed sales above those recorded in the same quarter of 2019, before the pandemic took hold.

The recovery came despite rising fuel costs.
