Former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has finally vacated the official residence following the Constitutional Court ruling on April 4 that upheld his impeachment. Yoon had stayed on at the presidential residence even after the court removed him from office over his declaration of martial law. He left the residence shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday for his private home in Seoul following the completion of security measures around the house. Many supporters gathered near the gate of the presidential residence. Yoon smiled as he stepped out of the car that was carrying him to shake hands with and hug the supporters. It was his first public appearance since being ousted from office. More supporters greeted Yoon and his wife, Kim Keon-hee, when their motorcade arrived at their private home. In a statement issued through his defense team, the former president said, "Now, I will return to life as an ordinary citizen, and seek a new path to serve our nation and people." Yoon still faces trial on a criminal charge of leading an insurrection. The first court hearing is scheduled for April 14.
