A: Hey buddy, did you catch any news lately? B: Nah, just been busy catching up on some shows. What's up? A: Well, Japan's top trade guy is heading to the US for more talks! They want a review of the tariff measures against Japan. B: Oh, really? And when's this happening? A: It's later this week. They're hoping to make some progress before their leaders meet at the G7 summit in Canada next month. B: Wow, that's big! I wonder if they'll reach an agreement... A: Well, they said it would be great if something could be sorted out during the summit. Let's see what happens! A: Also, US Treasury Secretary was absent this time, but our guy wants to chat with him soon. He'll start prepping for the next meeting when he gets back home. ---------------- Japan's top tariff negotiator is making arrangements to visit the United States again later this week for another round of trade talks. The two sides are aiming for progress ahead of the expected meeting between their leaders next month at the G7 summit in Canada. Economic Revitalization Minister Akazawa Ryosei met with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington on Friday. Akazawa strongly reiterated his request that the US review the tariff measures imposed on Japan. The two sides agreed to continue high-level consultations, eyeing possible discussions between President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru at the upcoming G7 summit. Akazawa told reporters that the two leaders will be coming together at the summit, so it would be "very desirable" if some kind of agreement could be reached at that time. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was absent from the third round of talks. Economic Revitalization Minister Akazawa said he hopes to hold more discussions that include him as soon as possible. He is expected to start preparations for the next meeting when he returns to Japan on Sunday.
