2 men arrested for allegedly taking new Banksy artwork in London NHK

London police have arrested two men on suspicion of stealing a road sign bearing the latest work by street artist Banksy.

The elusive artist had added what appeared to be three military drones to a red stop sign at an intersection in south London. The artwork is believed to be calling for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

Banksy posted a photo of the work on social media on Friday. But the sign was removed within an hour of being authenticated by the artist.

The British broadcaster BBC reports that police have arrested a man in his 20s and another in his 40s on suspicion of theft and criminal damage.

The sign remains missing. Police are calling on the public to come forward if they know anything about the incident.

The BBC quoted a gallery owner as saying the artwork could be worth up to 500,000 pounds, or about 635,000 dollars.

Banksy also announced several artworks last year in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, where the Russian invasion continues.
