The president of Nippon Steel says he wants to speak with US President Donald Trump about his firm's buyout plan for US Steel. The Japanese company's deal with US Steel was blocked by the former administration of Joe Biden. Now, Trump is saying Nippon Steel can only invest in the American firm, and not own it. But Nippon Steel President Imai Tadashi said decisions about an investment can't be separated from any plan to acquire shares. He said: "We think the current deal will basically be the starting point for the talks with the US government. We are in the phase of discussing what we can do to get president Trump to give consent to our plan." Imai said nothing is determined yet. He said a meeting with Trump will take place after discussions with administrative authorities.
