South Korean government officials say that North Korea has still not been answering routine inter-Korean calls via military and liaison hotlines.
                
South Korea&#039;s Defense Ministry said on Sunday that North Korea had not responded to military-to-military calls for a third consecutive day.
                
Normally, the twice-daily communications run seven days a week.
                
South Korea&#039;s Unification Ministry also communicates with North Korean authorities twice daily on weekdays. But North Korea reportedly was unresponsive on Friday.
                
The hotlines have been disconnected temporarily in the past for what was believed to be a technical reason. This time, North Korea has not explained why it hasn&#039;t responded.
                
The South Korean government officials said they are closely watching the situation.
                
In 2021, North Korea unilaterally cut the communication channels in protest of joint military drills between the United States and South Korea.
                
Some South Korean experts therefore suspect that North Korea may be deliberately unresponsive this time as well.
