Thailand&#039;s progressive Move Forward Party is putting pressure on the Senate. This comes a day after the party&#039;s leader Pita Limjaroenrat failed to receive enough support in the parliament to become the new prime minister.
                
A vote to select the political leader was held on Thursday. Pita was the only candidate. But he failed to secure enough support. Pita needed 375 votes in the bicameral parliament. But he only received 324.
                
After the vote was held, Pita said he intends to run for the post again in the next round.
                
He needs the support of senators handpicked by the military. His alliance of eight parties won a majority of the lower house seats in May&#039;s general election. But he only got 13 votes from the senators, as most of them abstained.
                
Executives from the Move Forward Party met with the house speaker on Friday. They submitted a draft bill aimed at revoking a constitutional law. The law allows senators to vote for the prime minister until May 2024. The party believes the change would reflect the will of the opposition that won the majority in May&#039;s election.
                
The Move Forward Party and the second-largest Pheu Thai Party are expected to have a meeting to talk about their strategy on Friday. The Pheu Thai Party is affiliated with ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
                
The second round of voting is expected to take place in parliament next week.
