Deadly quake rocks Indonesia's Java NHK

A deadly earthquake has struck the Indonesian island of Java, leaving 56 people dead and some 700 injured.

The magnitude 5.6 quake hit western Java around 1:20 on Monday afternoon on local time. The temblor's focus was estimated at a depth of 10 kilometers. Local authorities say there's no tsunami threat.

Casualties were confirmed in the hardest-hit Cianjur district of West Java province. Many buildings were damaged. The government is calling on people to stay away from damaged buildings.
