Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has held talks with his counterpart in Poland after wrapping up his trip to Ukraine. Kishida arrived in Poland's capital Warsaw on Wednesday. In their talks, he and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki agreed on bilateral cooperation in providing aid for Ukraine. In a joint news conference, Kishida expressed respect for Poland and appreciation for its playing a key role as a frontline base for humanitarian and military support to Ukraine. He pledged to help Poland through Japan's Official Development Assistance scheme, noting that the burden on the country has been increasing with Russia's prolonged invasion of Ukraine. Kishida stressed the importance of allies' maintaining unity and continuing harsh sanctions on Russia to stop the invasion as soon as possible. He said that as this year's chair of the Group of Seven, Japan will work with Poland in exercising leadership to ensure that the international community is united in supporting Ukraine. Morawiecki thanked Kishida for visiting Ukraine's capital Kyiv, describing the trip as clear proof of support for Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and defense of freedom and democracy. He said countries such as Japan and Poland share views on peace, stability and freedom and must work together in the new geopolitical environment spreading before both countries. Kishida is scheduled to arrive back in Japan on Thursday morning.
