Replicas of Ohtani Shohei's Dodgers jersey went on sale at an official goods shop on Monday even before the Los Angeles club officially announced its decade-long contract with the reigning two-time MVP winner.

Officials at the shop in Los Angeles said they received approval from the shop's operator several hours earlier than the announcement. They added they then started making the number 17 jerseys with the name of the two-way baseball star on them.

Fans visiting the shop were taking photos of the newly printed jerseys or buying them.

Sales clerks said they sold more than 20 of the replicas within 2 hours of the release.

A local man said he feels "connected" to the talented baseball player. He also said it's an honor to wear Ohtani's name on his back.

A shop employee said Ohtani merchandise is selling well, and that if he continues his strong performance, the shop will sell more and be very busy.
