Zelenskyy: Ukraine captures 2 North Korean soldiers in Kursk NHK

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukrainian troops have captured two North Korean soldiers in the western Russian region of Kursk.

Zelenskyy made the announcement in a social media post on Saturday.

He said the two soldiers were wounded and transported to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, where they are being interrogated by Ukraine's Security Service.

Security Service officials say that one of the two men was born in 1999 and the other in 2005, and that both are soldiers in the North Korean military. One of them reportedly was captured on Thursday.

The officials say one of the two told them that he was to undergo training, not to fight in the war against Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities estimate that about 11,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to Kursk to join Russian forces fighting the war. The authorities say some 4,000 of them have been killed or wounded.

Ukraine believes the deployment of North Koreans is solid evidence of Russia's attempt to expand the war.

Kyiv is expected to call on the international community to take resolute action.
