Houthis claim to have attacked ship in Red Sea, conducted strikes on Israel NHK

Yemen's anti-government Houthi group says it has carried out a missile attack on a container ship in the Red Sea and drone strikes against Israel.

A Houthi spokesperson claimed responsibility for the assaults on social media on Tuesday. He said his group fired a cruise missile at the MSC United.

Swiss-based MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company issued a statement saying one of its vessels had been attacked while en route to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia. It added that the crewmembers were safe and no injuries were reported.

The Houthi spokesperson also said his group had carried out drone strikes against Eilat and other areas in Israel.

The Israeli military said on Tuesday that the air force had intercepted a "hostile aerial target." It added that no damage had been reported.

The Houthis control northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa. They have pledged solidarity with the Palestinian group Hamas, which is fighting against Israel's forces in the Gaza Strip.

The Yemeni group says it will continue to conduct attacks against Israel and Israeli-related ships sailing through the Red Sea, if sufficient relief supplies are not allowed to reach the people in Gaza.
