Monday marks one month since a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas took effect. Attention is now focused on whether the truce can continue to hold and progress can be achieved in a peace plan led by US President Donald Trump.
The ceasefire began on October 10 based on the peace plan. But the Israeli military has defied it and launched sporadic attacks on the Gaza Strip, accusing Hamas of violating terms of the deal.
Health officials in Gaza say more than 240 people have lost their lives in the territory since the start of the ceasefire. A local media outlet reported on Sunday that one person was killed in an Israeli airstrike in a southern part of the enclave earlier in the day.
Israel is demanding Hamas hand over the last remaining four deceased hostages. But Hamas says locating some of their bodies is difficult as they are buried under rubble.
The second phase of the peace plan calls for the disarmament of Hamas and withdrawal of the Israeli military from Gaza. It also seeks the deployment of an International Stabilization Force in the territory.
However, Hamas seems reluctant to accept disarmament and the security force deployment.
US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff reportedly plans to visit Israel as early as Monday.
