A: Hey there! So, guess what? Tokyo Pride 2025 kicked off this weekend in Yoyogi Park! B: No way, really? That sounds cool! What's it all about? A: It's a big event organized by a local NPO, and it's happening during Pride Month in Japan. The goal is to support LGBTQ+ people and create a discrimination-free society. B: Whoa, that's important! What happened there on Saturday? A: Well, over 180 groups joined, like universities, companies, and LGBTQ+ groups themselves. They showcased their activities and programs. B: That sounds amazing! Did anyone ask about feelings towards sexual minorities? A: Yeah, students from Ryukoku University in Kyoto asked attendees to share their thoughts by identifying one of three categories - expectation, anxiety, or anger. B: Wow, that must've been insightful. Was there anything else fun happening? A: Oh yes! There were these ballroom dancers on stage, and it was two women dancing together, which is usually a man and a woman traditionally. B: That sounds interesting and progressive! Did people enjoy it? A: One participant said they found learning about the LGBTQ issue fun, even though it might seem sensitive at first. B: Great to hear that! By the way, what's coming up tomorrow at the event? A: The Pride Parade starts at noon on Sunday. People from the LGBTQ+ community and their supporters will participate in it. ---------------- An LGBTQ+ event is being held in a park in Tokyo to promote understanding of gender diversity with the goal of achieving a society free of discrimination and prejudice. Tokyo Pride 2025, organized by a Tokyo-based NPO, got underway in Yoyogi Park in Shibuya Ward on Saturday. The event coincides with Pride Month celebrations in Japan, which aims to boost the rights of LGBTQ+ people. About 180 groups, including universities, companies and LGBTQ+ groups, are taking part in the two-day event, showcasing their activities and programs. Students from Ryukoku University in Kyoto asked attendees how they felt about the current situation surrounding sexual minorities. They had to identify one of three categories -- expectation, anxiety and anger -- and leave a message. On stage, pairs of women engaged in ballroom dancing which is traditionally danced by a man and a woman. One participant said while the LGBTQ issue seemed sensitive, learning about it at this event was fun. Pride Parade, one of features on Sunday, is scheduled to start at noon with people from the LGBTQ+ community and their supporters taking part.
