A: Hey! Did you hear anything about Bangladesh? It’s been in the news. B: No! What’s going on? It sounds serious. A: Yeah, it is. There’s been a lot of protests. A young activist, Sharif Osman Hadi, died. B: Oh no! How did that happen? A: He was shot in Dhaka last Friday. He died Thursday after fighting for his life. B: Wow, that’s awful. Who was he? A: He was a really important guy. He spoke out a lot, especially about India. He was a leader in the big protests last year that got the former Prime Minister out of office. B: So, he was kind of a hero? A: Exactly! And he was going to run for election in February. B: That’s so sad. What’s the government doing? A: They’re urging everyone to stay peaceful. Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel Prize winner, gave a speech saying it’s a huge loss for the country. B: Did they do anything else? A: They declared a day of mourning and sent police to keep the peace. They’re worried the protests might get worse before the election.
