Japanese professional baseball outfielder Yoshida Masataka has reached a deal to join the Boston Red Sox in the US Major Leagues. Yoshida's agent Scott Boras revealed this on Wednesday. It was the first day of the 45-day negotiation period for the 29-year-old outfielder, posted by Japanese team, Orix Buffaloes, for MLB clubs. Yoshida hit .335 with 21 homers and 88 RBIs in his seventh year as a professional player this past season. He helped Orix to win its first Japan Series title in 26 years. US media outlets say he signed a five-year contract for an estimated 90 million dollars in an unusually quick deal. The amount is a record for a Japanese fielder moving to the MLB. The previous record was set last year when Suzuki Seiya agreed to a five-year 85-million-dollar contract with the Chicago Cubs.
