The Rabbit has passed the baton to the Asian arowana fish to mark the change of zodiac year under the Chinese calendar at an event held in western Japanese city of Kochi. The annual ceremony bridges the Year of the Rabbit in 2023 with the Year of the Dragon in 2024. It was held in the city's Katsurahama Aquarium featuring two rabbits from a local zoo and an Asian arowana. The "golden dragon" variety, so named for its shiny gold scales, is kept at the aquarium. The Asian arowana are native to Malaysia and elsewhere across Southeast Asia. An 18-year-old student visiting from neighboring Ehime Prefecture said that she was impressed by the fish's large scales. She said that she wants to study hard and aim for the top like a dragon. Doi Yuito, the aquarium's chief fish keeper, said he hopes the golden dragon fish will bring good luck to visitors and financially fruitful year to the aquarium.
