BOJ Gov. Ueda: YCC 'surprises' possible in future NHK

Bank of Japan Governor Ueda Kazuo on Friday indicated the possibility that the BOJ's policy of "Yield Curve Control," or YCC, could be adjusted in the future.

He was speaking on Friday, shortly after the central bank announced that was holding pat on its policy of keeping the short-term benchmark interest rate in negative territory and long-term yields at around zero percent.

Ueda said, "A variety of new data and information arrives during the periods between our policy-board meetings. We decide on YCC based on this. So it is unavoidable that there may be some surprises, including results that differ from one period to the next. That's also true of other measures."

Ueda said the BOJ will decide on policies by thoroughly considering the effects of its measures.
