'Anora' wins this year's Oscar for best picture NHK

The movie "Anora" directed by Sean Baker has won this year's Oscar for best picture.



The 97th Academy Awards ceremony was held in Hollywood, Los Angeles in the US state of California on Sunday. The awards are commonly known as the Oscars and considered to be the highest honor in the US film industry.



"Anora" is a variation on a modern day Cinderella story about a young exotic dancer from New York whose life takes unexpected turn after she meets and marries a son of a Russian billionaire. The film also won four other Oscars, including for best actress in a leading role and best directing.



Three films created by Japanese directors received nominations for this year's Oscars.



Ito Shiori's "Black Box Diaries" was shortlisted in the documentary feature film category. "Instruments of a Beating Heart," directed by Ema Ryan Yamazaki, collected a nomination in the documentary short film. "Magic Candies," directed by Nishio Daisuke, earned a nomination in the animated short film.



None of the three films won an award.
