Japan has agreed with Ukraine to promote support for its reconstruction through efforts from both the public and private sectors, and to cooperate to bring about peace as soon as possible. Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio held talks with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Tokyo on Monday, where he attended the Japan-Ukraine Conference for Promotion of Economic Growth and Reconstruction. Kishida opened the talks by stressing the need to freshly encourage the international community to support Ukraine as nearly two years have passed since Russia's invasion of the country. He said he wants to bolster measures for Ukraine's reconstruction through the joint efforts of the public and private sectors. Kishida and Shmyhal also discussed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace plan, which calls for the pullout of Russian forces and the restoration of Ukrainian territory. They agreed on further bilateral cooperation with the aim of bringing about a permanent peace to Ukraine at the earliest possible time. Over 50 memorandums of cooperation were signed between the two countries. The two leaders also agreed to start official talks on the signing of an Agreement on the Security of Information. Kishida said Japan will continue to work with Ukrainians until peace is restored to the "beautiful land of Ukraine." He said he also wants to work with other countries, including the G7 nations, to boost global support for Ukraine based on Monday's talks in Tokyo.
