Eddie Jones appointed as head coach of Australia's Wallabies rugby team NHK

Australia's rugby association says it has appointed Eddie Jones as head coach of the national team until the 2027 World Cup that takes place in the country.

Rugby Australia announced on Monday that Jones has replaced current head coach Dave Rennie.

Jones, an Australian national, is the former head coach of Japan and led the team to a historic win against South Africa in the 2015 World Cup.

He then oversaw England as head coach to a second place finish in the 2019 World Cup. But he was dismissed in December ahead of the World Cup in France in September, because of the team's recent poor performance.

Commenting on his appointment as Australia's new coach, Jones said, "If we can have everyone fit and healthy going into the World Cup this year, I am confident that we can go to France and break the 24-year drought of winning the Rugby World Cup."
