Chinese President Xi Jinping has suggested that China will step up cooperation with the group of emerging nations known as the Global South. Xi attended a ceremony on Friday in Beijing to mark the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. China issued joint statements, respectively, announcing the Five Principles with India and what is now known as Myanmar in 1954. The principles call for mutual respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, among others. Xi said, "The vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind," which he has been promoting, is "the most effective move to sustain, promote and upgrade" the five principles. He also said, "World affairs should be handled through extensive consultations, not dictated by those with more muscles." Xi announced that China will provide training to 100,000 people in Global South countries in the next five years. China also pledged 10 million dollars to support their agricultural development. China is believed to be stressing that it is deepening ties with the Global South to promote a multipolar world.
