Fuel has been transported into the Gaza Strip for the first time since Israel launched a complete blockade of the enclave. But a UN agency says the amount is insufficient. A truck carrying fuel entered southern Gaza from Egypt through the Rafah crossing on Wednesday. Israel had previously not allowed fuel delivery into Gaza, saying Hamas would use it for military purposes. The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, or UNRWA, said the amount -- about 23,000 liters -- is only 9 percent of what its officials need daily to sustain their lifesaving activities. UNRWA also said Israel restricts the use of the fuel to transporting relief supplies through the Rafah crossing. The agency pointed out a lack of fuel for operating hospitals and pumping well water. It is unclear whether fuel will continue to be brought into Gaza, enabling the humanitarian situation to improve.
